About The Countess Markievicz Artwork
This Countess Markievicz portrait is an original digitally designed artwork by Irish artist Richie Delaney, created by pushing pixels and using vibrant colours to produce a bold and dynamic finish.
Richie's contemporary approach gives the portrait its own distinctive character, using colour and digital composition to create an energetic interpretation of one of Ireland's most recognisable historical figures.
Countess Constance Markievicz was a revolutionary, politician and one of the most prominent figures in Ireland's struggle for independence. A pioneering woman in Irish political life, she played an important role in the events surrounding the Easter Rising and the establishment of the Irish Free State.
Markievicz became the first woman elected to the British House of Commons, although she did not take her seat, and later served as Minister for Labour in the revolutionary Irish government. Her life remains an important part of Ireland's political, historical and cultural story.
Rather than creating a traditional painted portrait, Richie uses digital design to reinterpret Countess Markievicz in a contemporary style. The combination of colour, pixels and composition creates a vibrant piece of Irish digital art that celebrates both her character and her lasting place in Irish history.
The artwork is available as a Countess Markievicz fine art print in A2 and A3 sizes.
